What are cookies?

Small text files that websites store on your device to remember things about you (like which country you chose, your preferred currency, or whether you are logged in). This policy also covers similar storage in your browser (local storage and session storage).

Essential cookies (always on)

countryRemembers which country you selected
langRemembers your language
ccyRemembers your currency
app_display_currencyRemembers the currency you picked for approximate conversions (browser storage)
device_idAnonymous ID so the follow button and favorites work without an account (browser storage)
theme, favorites, recent_viewsYour light or dark mode, saved cars and recently viewed cars (browser storage)
cookie_consentRemembers your cookie choice (all or essential only) for 12 months. Where no banner is shown (see below), it is set to all automatically, and that automatic choice is kept in the same way until you change it.

Rento Line's own measurement and listings (always on)

These are used for every visitor, wherever you are (also in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland) and before any cookie choice. They only work on Rento Line: the data stays on our servers and is not passed to Google, Meta or other advertising companies.

utmRemembers the campaign link that brought you here (utm tags, gclid, fbclid) for 28 days, so we can see which campaigns lead to enquiries. Only set when you arrive through such a link.
rl_vidA random ID, set when you open a car page, that remembers which cars this browser viewed so that related listings, including sponsored ones (places paid for by rental companies), can be shown first on Rento Line. Kept for 12 months.
atr_sid (session storage)A random ID for the open browser tab, used to count live visits. It is deleted when you close the tab.
atr_ad (session storage)Notes that this tab came from one of our ads, so that the Google tag starts on the first page of that visit (it then follows the rules below). It is deleted when you close the tab.

Analytics and advertising cookies

We use these to count visits, to see which pages work well and which confuse people, to measure our ads, and to show Rento Line ads to people who have visited the site (on Google, YouTube, Gmail, Facebook and Instagram).

In the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom and Switzerland they stay off until you click Accept all in the cookie banner.

Everywhere else they are on by default from your first visit, without a banner. You can switch them off at any time with Cookie settings (see below).

We tell the two apart by your device's time zone setting, not by your IP address or location. A time zone in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland shows the banner; any other time zone, or one we cannot place, counts as outside.

If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal and no cookie choice is stored in your browser yet, nothing is switched on by default: you are asked first, wherever you are.

These rules decide only while no choice is stored in your browser. Once a choice is stored (yours, or the automatic one set where no banner is shown), it is kept until you change it with Cookie settings or delete your cookies, even if you later browse from another time zone or turn on Global Privacy Control.

Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*)Counts visits and the pages viewed
Google Ads (_gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gcl_ls)Measures enquiries from our ads and adds visitors to Rento Line's remarketing audiences
Meta Pixel (_fbp, _fbc)Measures our Facebook and Instagram ads and builds audiences of site visitors
Microsoft Clarity (_clck, _clsk, _cltk)Heatmaps and recordings of how pages are used; form fields are masked
Rento Line session recordings (no cookie)Our own recordings of how pages are used, kept on our servers; form fields are masked

While these cookies are off, the Google tag still sends Google basic measurement signals without cookies (Google Consent Mode). They store nothing on your device and are not used to add you to advertising audiences.

How to refuse or change your choice

Open Cookie settings (the link at the bottom of every page, or the button below) and choose Essential only. It applies straight away, also in your other open tabs of the site (pages may reload): analytics and advertising are switched off, the cookies and browser storage they kept on rentoline.com are deleted, and your choice is kept for 12 months in the cookie_consent cookie. Choose Accept all to switch them on again.

If you delete your cookies, your choice is forgotten and the rules above apply again on your next visit.

Google, Meta and Microsoft also keep cookies on their own websites; you control those in your Google, Meta and Microsoft privacy and ad settings.

You can also block cookies in your browser settings — the site will still work.
